ORGANIZATION

The International Organisation for Migration (hereinafter referred to as the “IOM”) is an international intergovernmental organisation, a member of the United Nations system. IOM Lithuania has been active since 1998.

Its main goal is to ensure the well-being of all migrants.

IOM works with partners in different countries to help tackle the challenges of migration: smuggling, trafficking, and the processes that hinder the social integration of migrants.

People migrating from country to country are targeted by traffickers. 2 out of 3 victims of trafficking are women and girls. They are most often involved in forced prostitution, servitude and marriages of convenience. Young men and boys are exploited for crime and forced labour.

More than 7,000 victims of human trafficking are recorded in the EU every year. The real figure is several times higher, as many victims remain unnamed or do not know where to turn for help.

IOM Lithuania invites everyone to actively use the information on this platform, to help themselves and others to assess the risks of trafficking in human beings, and to get acquainted with the support channels.
